The Mozilla Foundation, MacArthur Foundation and HASTAC together have named the winners of the “Badges for Life Long Learning Competition“.  The competition,

links designers, entrepreneurs, technologists and educators with leading business and industry organizations to build digital badge systems and explore the ways badges can be used to help people learn, demonstrate skills and knowledge, and unlock job, educational and civic opportunities.

Winners receive between $25 and $175 thousand dollars in grants to help their projects mature and launch. A full list of the winners can be found at http://dmlcompetition.net/Competition/4/winners.php.

Moodle and Mahara were listed as one of the Platform Award winners.  The project is managed by Totara Learning Solutions of New Zealand, this is their project summary,

Moodle is an open source online training and course management system. Mahara provides open source eportfolios. They propose to focus on an open source infrastructure for broad-based usage. This partnership will allow Moodle to extend their current work, enabling badges and permit Mahara to add badges to their Gradebook resulting in a deeply representative electronic portfolio. To achieve this, we will develop the long-awaited repository API to demonstrate badge display in Moodle from an external repository source.

Congratulations to the TLS Ltd. team on elevating Moodle to Badge Platform status!
