MoodleMakeover: Using the Glossary as a frontpage rotating testimonial space

Moodle has great tools, one of my favorites is the Glossary which is a great way to create some autolinked definitions in your course, but it also is a great tool for providing some rotating information on your sites home page.

Continuing along the series of the Moodle “makeover” I’ve been working on transitioning from Moodle 1.9 to 2.5 is the presence of out testimonials on the site homepage. When using 1.9 we did use the same feature to accomplish the same thing, however the true “homepage” was actually on a different site so the testimonials were not displayed and there wasn’t a similar feature in WordPress that accomplished the same thing in such an elegant fashion. So if you have short ads, quotes, testimonials or other randomly rotating information you want to expose your website visitors to, try using the Glossary and Random Glossary Block to get that done.

Thankfully the export/import from Moodle 1.9 to 2.5 worked great. We have a dozen or so good entries that help to give potential students a sense of the level of service we’re providing. It’s a great way to put students at ease  as they navigate the unfamiliarity of online self-paced courses.
