In an interview on, Monash University’s Nonzahriyah Adun shares her experience with MoodleMoots. Adun manages EdTech initiatives at the Melbourne institution and is also a regular at MoodleMoots Australia, as well as coordinator and presenter.

MoodleMoots are the conferences Moodle communities attend around the world every year. MoodleMoots offer two flavors to attendants: first, the latest in cutting-edge technology and educational practice from the world at large, and second, the local taste found in the food, the night life, and leisure activities.

MoodleMoots are also an opportunity for a select few: the presenters. Attendees look forward to interesting stories of educational, technical, and managerial Moodle practice. People brave enough to share their story enjoy a platform where learning is the focus. Accounts of success are always nice and can help open new ways forward, but failure is critical and regarded just the same. A method or intervention that did not show results; a risk improperly accounted for that came true; or incorrect estimates about cost, effort, or time: Communicating errors is important. It saves resources, preventing Moodlers from going down the same ill-fated roads too many times.

Adun enjoys MoodleMoot’s opportunities to “expand her world.” The meetings give her a chance to enhance her practice. She also networks. A fun habit she has is to check back on people she met in previous Moots. She likes to “get updates on how their organisations have been using Moodle.”

The call for presentations for next September’s MoodleMoot Australia is open. Formats accepted are 15 and 7 minute-long presentations or posters.

Early bird registrations run until August 14th and come with a free Moodle t-shirt.
