Moodle 3.0.1 is on the streets from today onwards having compatibility with both PHP5 and PHP7.
In a recent announcement on Moodle forums, Helen Foster has posted about the release of the Moodle 3.0.1 from the normal download channels. Using Moodle with PHP7 can improve the performance of your Moodle site upto a great extent.
However, in my opinion you should not upgrade your server to PHP7 yet as it is still evolving with lot of other dependencies still to be upgraded. And all the Moodle plugins needs to be tested with PHP7 before trying PHP7 in a production environment. If you are a developer of Moodle Plugins then you can check out this docs for information on upgrading plugins.
The current release doesn’t contains any security fixes which will be covered in the minor point release which is scheduled for 11 Jan 2016.
Check out the release notes for Moodle 3.0.1 here.
