Many services for Moodle or other LMS tout the word “integration.” By itself, it evokes the fusion of two systems into one, in which a user would not know that the system delivering the course, assignments, and certificates is different from the system showing them a catalog, processing payments, and handling receipts.

Unfortunately, a lot of the services out there fail to deliver on that promise of simplicity. If you are an educator, your focus should be on providing a quality learning experience using every tool at your disposal. Customers should also find it simple enough to get started on a learning track.

Courtesy of Paradiso Solutions, we offer the following checklist of factors that make an e-commerce product easy to integrate into a workflow whether you are a teacher or a student:

  • Automatic enrollment: The system should be able to identify payment has been made and automatically enroll the user into the course. Ideally, it should direct them to the course homepage.
  • Single Sign On: Similarly, fields the user has completed for the LMS should not be asked again for the online store (or vice versa). This also means the user should have the option to save payment data in case they would like to purchase additional products at any time during the course.
  • Discounts and perks on file: If the user received a prize or activated a coupon, they should not have to use a different system to remember the information and when to activate it.
  • Multiple payment options: Do not limit users to credit cards or PayPal. Many options keep opening, from Venmo to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. In some countries, generating a code that allows customers to pay physically at retail locations has proven a successful tool for adoption.
