Moodle HQ, by way of Development Process Manager Marina Glancy, has announced the upcoming availability of the bimonthly minor or “second point” releases of the active versions of Moodle, namely 2.7, 3.0, 3.1 and, most notably, 3.2.

It seems that it was only yesterday that Moodle 3.2 launched. A couple hiccups delayed the anticipated LMS update from November 14th to December 5th. But to stick to the program of second point releases for the second Monday of January, March, May, July, September and November, HQ decided not to delay the 3.2 updates.

Below there are some highlights on each release:

Moodle 2.7.18 and Moodle 3.0.8

Among the final updates to both Moodle 2.7 ― a Long Term Support version― and Moodle 3.0, it only covers security fixes. If your organization’s critical operations allow it, Moodle HQ encourages to upgrade to a fully update-supported version of Moodle.

The last, security releases for these two versions of Moodle will come May 9th.

Moodle 3.1.4

Also a Long Term Support version, Moodle 3.1 has added some user behavior upgrades, to make for a quicker experience. Listed fixes and improvements are:

  • Better expand\collapse behavior for course listings.
  • Set Quiz grade hidden functionality works now when reporting.
  • Reset button at Assignment activity clears persistent settings.
  • Markings for Assignment are saved even if the activity is hidden.
  • A fix for submissions annotation error when student unenrols.
  • Audio WAV files supported.
  • A fix keeps existing authentication methods for existing students when admins add new, different ones in bulk (via CSV file).
  • Empty, non-required multiple choice question submission allowed.
  • Login with expired passwords prevented.

Moodle 3.2.1

In addition to most of the under-the-hood fixes for Moodle 3.1, Moodle 3.2 has made some refinements to the “Boost” theme, its visual staple.

Details on security fixes to all versions will be released within the week.
