Nothing puts a grey cloud over your day quite like the realization that your Moodle has been hacked. If this has never happened to you, I truly hope that it never does. Beyond any real financial or other damage to your business or institution, much like any criminal act, it not only leaves you with a ton of work and all the suffering that accompanies it, it also just leaves you with a feeling like you have been violated.

There are a number of ways to secure your Moodle, including Moodle’s native ability to lock out users. But sometimes you need / want more layers of protection.

Recently released for 3.0 is an “Anti-Hammering” plugin from Sebsoft that listens for brute force attacks via your login screen. After detecting an attack, the plugin automatically blocks any activity from the attacker’s IP address. While this layer of security does not, ultimately, prevent attacks on your site, it can give you a bit more peace of mind while you spend your time attending to your students, customers or content.

You can download the Anti-Hammering Plugin on here.
