Moodle 3.6.2 bring a modest but necessary set of fixes and improvements. Many of the new features debuted in the Moodle 3.6 series start to face real situations with learners, teams, instructors and institutions.

Together, they amount to 18 fixes and improvements, and 2 security issues. The fixes relate to all sorts of components of the LMS: From authentication (CAS) and integration (IMS Common Cartridge) to User Interface (Question bank pagination, Multimedia in lessons) and responsiveness (Drag and drop with file limits), as well as under-the-hood performance improvements (fetching notications, database query actualization) and so on.

On the security side, two minor issues related to proper syntax in risk flagging and rendering of escape symbols in the text that goes along with profile pictures complete the update.

The share of Moodle sites running the 3.6 series seems about to cross the 30% mark, up from about 20% since we last looked over a month ago.

Few Moodlers agree that you should always stay on top with the latest Moodle release, except in the case of strong recommendations, usually tied to security concerns. Many choose to wait until the school year is idle, especially for a setup intensive in plugins. Other choose to skip early releases. While Moodle 3.6.2 is already the third in the series, the initial launch of Moodle 3.6 met a false start. Moodle 3.6.1 was released only days after, fixing an issue with the new Messaging system.
