The International Phonetic Alphabet helps learners and logophiles understand the intended pronunciation. You may recognize it from english language dictionaries as the bit with the upside down e’s, œ and ε.
The language can now also be leveraged in Moodle through the IPA Filter (sadly nothing to do with hoppy beer), “This filter will treat text between hyphen/curly-brace combinations as X-SAMPA to be rendered as Unicode IPA. Mark the beginning of X-SAMPA with “-{” and the end with “}-“.”
Download the filter at https://moodle.org/plugins/view/filter_ipa. The filter was contributed recently by Kevin Wiliarty of Smith College.
