Moodle Participates in the Google Summer of Code #GSOC for 5th year

The Google Summer of Code is an international event which teams mentor developers with aspiring student developers to work on various projects across the web. This is the 5th year of Moodle’s involvement in the program according to the announcement [link].  The opportunity gives interested students a chance to dive into Moodle code and potentially make a lasting impact on the core code base of Moodle LMS.

Over it’s 4 previous years of participation students have worked on some amazing projects including new course formats, customizable themes, added features for social networking, usability and user experience and a lot of other very cool initiatives.  Check out the complete history (going back to the first year of Moodle involvement in 2006) at

This year there are already 5 projects listed on the 2011 GSOC page at including some work related to SCORM, a new Windows installer and better spam detection.
