Results of the Gradebook Survey (part II) and the Gradebook Workshop

Bob Puffer has posted his notes on the Gradebook Workshop which was held in Long Beach, CA, USA a few weeks ago to Moodle.org along with some handy resources to start making sense of what may come of the gradebook in Moodle. Generally, he mentioned, all attendees reached consensus on a number of items both minor and major which will be incorporated or worked towards in the next Moodle releases starting with 2.8 and 2.9 but focusing on a major revamp for 3.0.

One of the most major changes will be a UCLA modeled grader report with fixed columns and row headers which should greatly improve the usability of a large gradebook (similar to the LAE grader).

You’ll also find a link to the gradebook survey part 2 in that discussion. There’s some great information but one specific question response summary jumps out as highlighting the various things that users are hoping to have improved over time. It seems that there’s a lot of room for improvement in ANY gradebook area:
