Can anything compare to a beautifully crafted HD photo as the background of carefully outlined sections and lovingly designed icons and content? While you rack your brain looking for candidates, read this Moodle.com profile on “Moodlerati” Damyon Wiese and his “Photo” theme for Moodle 3.2. It is a child of the default “Boost” theme that came with the latest release of the Open Source LMS, last December.
Wiese, also Moodle HQ’s Development Manager, is quick to acknowledge that he did not invent the backgrounds in “Photo“. “Boost” itself offers an easy way to add a background image through the theme settings page. For “Photo”, Wiese encoded further “photogenia”, with the ability to add many photo backgrounds. They can change depending on the Moodle Course or Section to which the page the user is on belongs.
Besides the conditional photo background, “Photo” offers the exact same features as “Boost”. Part of the motivation for Wiese to create the theme was educational. “Photo” was the first theme based on “Boost” as part of a walkthrough about “Boost” children themes. The tutorial is available at the Moodle Documentation for developers website, docs.moodle.org/dev.
