Moodle Desktop app is the recent product by Moodle HQ team to get access to Moodle course offline on desktop and surface tablets. In our previous article a month ago, we have covered the advantages and basic features of the Moodle desktop. Initially it was released only for Windows OS, Yesterday Moodle HQ team has released the new version of the Moodle desktop app for MacOS and Linux devices.
Now, the Moodle desktop app is available for the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS (Note: Minimum Mac OS version supported is Mac OS 10.9)
  • Linux: Ubuntu 12.04, Fedora 21 and Debian 8 and later
  • Windows 7 and 8

Moodle desktop has all the features, functionalities and user experience elements similar to the Moodle mobile app. In order to use the Moodle desktop, as an administrator you need to allow it from Site administration > Mobile app > Mobile settings.

Moodle Desktop 3.3.1:

The new version of Moodle desktop is based on the Moodle Mobile 3.3.1 and includes all the features and functionality available in Moodle Mobile 3.3.1. Apart from the database activity support, the other new features in the new version of the Moodle desktop are:

  • The app keeps the focus when re-opened via the status bar
  • Scroll down on pages using a scroll wheel or trackpad gesture is now supported
