2 Babson alumni believe they have figured out something the bigger LMS fish have not. Ambi will try its best to make the EdTech experience not to feel “like filing your taxes.” A profile on quotes Co-Founder Saad El Yamani:

«Most LMS portals were designed for faculty, not for students (…) They are clunky, feel old and absolutely aren’t connected to anything students understand or recognize

What is Ambi’s groundbreaking value proposition, as informed by unique insight? Engagement, “peer-to-peer connections” and a sense of community. This would allow students to “get more out of their college experience” and solve student retention once and for all.

An animation of Ambi’s experience resembles the feed of a social network, pop-up messaging and all. Half way through, it reveals that it is not looking to replace the school’s LMS, but to add a social feed layer on top. Resources and assignments are drawn from the current system, be it Blackboard, Canvas or Moodle. The interface also allows coursework submission and grade reporting. It boasts real-time editing and video conference tools, among other treats.

Public profile (in-school, at least) allow students access to each other’s information, including courses in which they are enrolled and parts of their schedule.

Ambi already raised in a year more than what Moodle did in 15. (In fairness, both sums are minuscule in the EdTech VC space.) It seems the incursion is school is the result of a pivot from what originally was a workplace-oriented product.
