The Collaborative Liberal Arts Moodle Project just completed some commendable milestones for the benefit of the Moodleverse at large, if only originally for the benefit of the Liberal Arts education within its North American members. After successful back-to back events, Summer Hack/Doc Fest and the Academic Technology Administrators Conference, the consortium is rolling out Moodle LAE 3.5, keeping up with Moodle’s latest version. Minor updates to previous Moodle releases also include the first significant feature updates in months.

New Art

Moodle LAE differs from the original Moodle only slightly. It packages a couple plugins known to be frequently used by CLAMP members, saving valuable time and patience for repetitive tasks with each update or new setup. It also has some extra bug fixes, though not too many since CLAMP’s policy is to provide a fix to any outstanding issues to the Moodle core first.

This time, the Filtered Course List plugin, which offers a block that displays courses according to an expanded criteria set, is the focus of the improvement. The upgrade is available for Moodle LAE 3.3 to 3.5, as well as regular Moodle sites as a plugin in the official directory.

Moodle LAE 3.1.13 is also available as a “maintenance-only” release. No upgrade is available for the 3.2 series, and no future updates are expected. CLAMP’s official stance is an encouragement to upgrade to Moodle 3.5, LAE or plain, especially for schools running Moodle 3.2+ or older.

The next round of upgrades is expected in September on the heels of the next set of minor Moodle releases.
