Atto Snippet Plugin – the new plugin in the Moodle plugins database is another great contribution by the PoodLL guy – Justin Hunt. The new Atto Snippet plugin is quite similar to the Generico Filter in functionality. It is a simple html/text template tool for Moodle’s Atto editor.
The best thing which impressed me about this new plugin is that unlike Generico, Snippet has no filter plugin companion. It returns html directly to the text area. This is useful when the content doesn’t need JavaScript, and has the benefit that the content is instantly visible and editable in the text area (ie without filtering).
You can use the Atto Snippet plugin to add text, layouts, buttons and other content from templates directly into Moodle HTML areas. In simple terms, instead of going everytime and adding the same content through the HTML view mode in the Atto Editor, you can use the Atto Snippet plugin to create templates of different HTML code/text content which can be used in all areas wherever Atto is available.
The administrator creates templates with placeholders(variables) and add the snippet icon in the atto toolbar. Then the user uses the Snippet icon to choose the template, set any variables, and insert the resulting html code into the html test area.

For getting started with templates setting, the plugin ships with 2 built-in templates. Similarly you can create your own templates. You can also make your own presets and share them too.
You can download the Atto Snippet plugin from the Moodle plugins database here. The plugin is available for Moodle 3.1 version onwards.
Do you ever need to insert similar HTML code or Text content in different Moodle Pages? How did you achieved that? Are you going to use the to Snippet plugin? Share your experience with us in the comments section below.
