Each year we’ve focused a bit of our September posts to helping teachers get their academic year started right. Each day this week we’ll publish a simple trick, tip or resource list which we think will help to make it easier to use Moodle in the classroom and to use it better.

Moodle Community ForumsIt is the beginning of the year and, let’s admit it, you’re busy. Maybe even feeling a bit overwhelmed: back to campus, orientation meetings, new students, administration, a return to the commute… oh yeah, and you have to teach as well.

Unless you’re like us (that is certified Moodle Wonks), its likely that the last thing you want to be doing during this time is “figuring out” something that isn’t working quite the way you want it to in Moodle. Maybe your course isn’t displaying correctly, or you’re having trouble accessing files, or your students are not able to take the quiz that you’ve carefully created over the past few weeks.

Rather than pull your hair out trying to figure things out on your own, take a few minutes and visit the Moodle Community forums. As with any much-loved software, there are, literally, millions of other people just like yourself that use Moodle on a day to day basis. It is highly likely that some of these people have experienced the same issue you have, and more importantly, many of them have found a solution that works well.

Most users will find the “Moodle in English” the best “course” to join ( is ofcourse just a giant Moodle install!). Moodle in English has over 7000 Moodlers from around the world in it participating in forums as simple as General Help, forums for each Module (Game, SCORM, Lesson) all the way to more complex discussions like Integrations and Future Major Features. Each has it’s own friendly moderators and host of helpful individuals to help you find the answer you need.

And, hey, after the initial rush of back-to-school week is over, come back to the forums and contribute your ideas, fixes, suggestions, comments and more. This will not only help Moodle grow and be and even better system, but it also offers you the opportunity to connect with others in the community.
