The first of two planned MoodleMoots in Brazil for 2018 flew by flawlessly. Packed attendance rooms demonstrated once again Moodle’s massive appeal in the largest Portuguese-speaking country and, with close to five thousand active and registered sites, the fourth largest Moodle economy.
Brazil is also a country challenged by issues of access in many forms. When it comes to education, geography and infrastructure have led to a unique landscape of promotion of digital distance education across the whole learner life-cycle. Add a growing population to an increasing-but-still-low purchasing power and subpar internet coverage, and the main subjects of the “Moot” are no longer a mystery:
- Moodle Mobile’s offline features
- Artificial Intelligence and chatbots
- Analytics for virtual classrooms
- Plugin development for professional education and Professional Development
- Moodle Rubrics and lifelong learning
- Interactivity and H5P
- University case studies (including UFMG, Itajubá-MG, UNA-SUS and more)
- Automated classroom management and QR Codes
- Digital storytelling and course formats using MoodleCloud
- GDPR
- Next Generation Digital Learning Environments
Among the event’s highlights, there was prolific Moodler Daniel Neis from Moodle Partner Adapta, who disclosed some of the coolest features coming in Moodle 3.5, and William Mano, manager of UEMANET. The eye-catching part of the roster came from Gustavo Caetano, CEO of Samba Tech and an international celebrity in his field today.
