In the last few days of 2017, Moodle HQ team organized the second MoodleMoot in Mumbai, India which was also the last MoodleMoot for the year 2017. The 2-day conference was one of the biggest Edtech conference in India for 2017. The first MoodleMoot India was organized by the Moodle Community members of India in 2016.
I got a chance to be a part of the India’s biggest EdTech conference and witness the Moodle penetration in Indian Education system. Due to its open source nature and customization flexibility are among few of the reasons which went in Moodle’s favor.
MoodleMoot India Day-1 : 18th December 2017
The MoodleMoot India 2017 started with the keynote by none other than Dr. Martin Dougiamas from Moodle HQ. Martin pondered upon the Education as one of the biggest challenge for world and shared the shared the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of UN which can Transform Our World. Education stands on the 4th of the list after Poverty ,Hunger & Food Security & Health.
He also shared the vision of Moodle HQ and how Moodle can help in transforming our world through quality education. Later on he showed the various fronts on which Moodle HQ development team is working which includes Brand new Learn Moodle curriculum, Focus on Usability in Moodle, Complying the GDPR, new features in Moodle 3.5 and Moodle User’s Association.

In the evening session, Tom Murdock from Moodle HQ introduced about the new Learn Moodle curriculum. There was a hackfest/ Moodle development session in another room which was hosted by Ankit Agarwal and Sara Arjona from Moodle HQ development team.
Solange Lalonde from Moodle HQ education team organized a workshop on “Planning for Success In Moodle Course Design”. The first day concluded with an online meeting with Moodle User’s Association committee.
MoodleMoot India Day-2 : 19th December 2017
The second day of the conference started with keynote presentation by Solange Lalonde followed by small presentations from Indian Moodle experts like:
- Creating Interactive Videos in Moodle Courses
- Creating a chatbot in Moodle
- Enhancing quality of learning services for distant, international and visually impaired learners
- One School One Server: Imagining Open, Relevent and Decentralised LMS for every student
- Can Online Learning Transform Cancer Training in India? – a call for action
- Challenges and Opportunities in Moodle adoption in Engineering Education
The second half of the day started with Moodle HQ team pondering upon the Moodle 3.4 and Moodle Mobile features. The day concluded with Dr. Moodle session where all the Moodle HQ team answered the questions asked by the MoodleMoot participants.
After a brainstorming edtech conference for 2 days, there was an unforgettable Moodle party along with whole Moodle HQ team. Here are some good memories from the MoodleMoot India 2017 party. Enjoy!!
