MoodleMoot UK & Ireland 2017 pulled out all the stops. With a whole wide world of possible subjects to cover, this MoodleMoot tackled them all. Here’s our recap of MoodleMoot UK & Ireland 2017.

We also made this handy Twitter Moment to guide you through:

Day One

The first day invited everyone to expert workshops, with five concurrent sessions covering Analytics, Mobile, Assessment, and Course Design.

It was also the first “Moodle Hackfest” within a “Moot”.

Also starting on day one, the halls at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London were covered with Moodle Posters.

Day Two

Important subjects were discussed, as it is often the case. Even though Moodle 3.3 is still a few weeks away, questions were already bubbling up about Moodle 3.4, which should come this fall.

Morning talks covered the Moodle Quiz, performance issues, global search, mobile, Moodle’s media players, “Snap,” and other themes. Sponsored sessions were held by Wiris, Urkund, and Moodle Partner, Moodlerooms. Shorter, “PICO” sessions were held after lunch:

Despite the long-standing partnership, for a large swath of the fan base, there was a “dirty word” floating around:

Technical tips were exchanged.

The evening came to a close with a live jazz dinner session.

Day Three

The crowd called for analytics and it was the time for Moodle’s own Project Inspire to shine. The in-house machine learning initiative is only just beginning, but it already made clear what its intentions are (and are not).

Questions about the value of measuring learning were thoroughly and repeatedly addressed.

Related to analytics, the day also covered plagiarism (covered by sponsors Turnitin and Urkund), xAPI, UX, and particular competencies.

An important session was offered by Blackboard researcher John Whitmer from his enviable position as data scientist for the largest Moodle partner out there.

The role of the Moodle Users Association was also highlighted.

In the afternoon, discussions covered reference managers and citations, large file submissions, Mahara, and transferring grades to student records management systems.

And that was it! A fun meet-up of Moodlers that will give us much more to talk about as speakers publish their presentations and resources over the coming days.
