POET Group raises some questions, sparks discussion at

poetLast week the announcement of POET Group, a commercial association of Moodle vendors (both partners and non), suggested that Moodle Pty Ltd, the Moodle service-mark holder supported the initiative.

POET is designed to streamline the process of vetting and improving plugins for Moodle. Each participant of POET previously enforced their own guidelines and standards for plugins which vendors or developers would need to navigate individually and often in succession, by adopting and enforcing a common standard vendors/developers now could have that code vetted once and all POET members now would accept that code.

Moodle founder, Martin Dougiamas posted to the forums that the initiative is not backed by Moodle HQ/Pty Ltd. Moodle plugins are now receive both peer review and automated checks before being accepted into the database at You can read up on the interesting conversation to date at
